After over a decade of fronting multiple group successes, Italian musician Speziale is releasing his debut solo album “I”, out May 2026 via Pom Pom Records. The 13 song avant-pop collection is an LSD saturated tunnel vision journey; proceeding in the dark with a light view ahead and endless left turns along the way, guided by Speziale’s dizzying vocal prowess. Think glimpses of Cocteau Twins, Yves Tumor and Blood Orange, spoken through the lens of one of the brightest and most refreshing producers of his class, who ultimately can’t help but to emote as uniquely himself.
Raised by a traveling antiques dealer between Rome and London, Speziale was first introduced to the world of music at the age of five when he began singing and studying classical guitar in the Philharmonic Academy of Rome’s children choir. His professional path took off at the age of 21 when he formed and fronted the cult-famous Italian alt rock group ‘About Wayne’ while simultaneously creating, starring in and composing the music for viral youtube mini series ‘Freaks!’. Speziale became known in Italy’s alternative scene for dazzling young audiences with his captivating stage presence and impressive vocal athleticism while playing headline tours and the major festival circuit nation-wide.
He then went on to sign to London’s Memphis Industries with his indie darling success ’Malihini’, collaborating with Italian film actress Thony and seasoned British producer Richard Formby (Wild Beasts, Darkstar) on his most recent full length effort ‘Hopefully, Again’. The shimmering release gained the refined pop outfit attention and praise in the international tastemaker press, including a feature in Rolling Stone Italia, with Clash Magazine hailing the project as “enthralling… a wonderfully mature piece of pop exotica, as enticing as it is bewildering” while Loud and Quiet glowingly described Speziale’s role as “like Bob Dylan fronting LCD Soundsystem”. The duo captured audiences throughout the UK and Europe, earning festival dates at the likes of Primavera Sound and support slots for artists ranging from Sharon Van Etten to Warpaint, gaining the project and Speziale as a frontman in his own right an impressive international following.
In addition to his front-facing efforts, Speziale has spent the last years building out his personal studio and an impressive production roster from the control room at Pom Pom Studio, while also rekindling his cinematic past, this time within the world of music supervision. He most recently served as musical supervisor for the critically acclaimed Netflix biopic “Sei Nell’Anima” spanning the career and catalog of legendary Italian rocker Gianna Nannini. Though his prolific personal compositions never fail to lead him into the spotlight.
When not being led by Speziale’s one-man-show brilliantly programmed rhythm section, the self-produced ”I” also enlists the talent of Franz Aprili (Phoenix, Ariete) and Emanuele Triglia (Joan Thiele, Mannarino). The result is a captivating fever dream that blends his bravest production instincts with just enough of his most satisfying pop sensibilities to shape the ride, breaking chains of genre and sentiment in a way that’s as unsettling as it is irresistible- fitting for an artist that has proven to continually foster a fanbase on the edge of their seats, eagerly wondering what on earth he’ll do next.
